How we grade difficulty, water, and commitment.
Two numbers, read together
Canyon grades are two-part: a difficulty number (1–4) and a water/commitment letter (A–C). 3B means a technical canyon with moderate water — you read them as a pair, never separately.
The ladder
1A walking, no rope 2A 2B scrambles, easy rappels 3A 3B technical, water, commitment 4A 4B serious, remote, no bail
How we apply it
We grade conservatively and re-grade after the season. A canyon that felt 3B in June can be 3C after the spring melt — the page updates with the flow.
