Ropes

Static lines for descent, and how much to carry.

Static, not dynamic

Canyon ropes are static — they barely stretch, because a stretchy rope bounces you down the wall. You want every millimeter of rope working as a line, not a spring.

The spec

type static, 9–10mm
length 2x your longest rappel + 15m
sheath dry-treated for wet canyons
life 5 years or 200 descents

How we beta it

Each route lists the minimum rope length, so you can check your bag against the page before you drive out.
